This Privacy Policy explains what information NearMatch ("we", "us") collects when you use the NearMatch app or the nearmatch.in website, how we use it, and who we share it with. NearMatch is intended for users aged 18 and over.
NearMatch is currently operated by Avnish Yadav, an individual founder — NearMatch is not yet incorporated as a separate legal entity. References to "we", "us", and "NearMatch" in this policy mean Avnish Yadav, operating the NearMatch app and website.
Information we collect
- Account information: the email address and password you sign up with.
- Profile information: your name, age, gender, bio, interests, and avatar or profile photo.
- Verification data: if you choose to verify your age, a selfie you take is sent to our age-estimation provider for a single one-time check. We do not store this selfie. We store only the result of the check (pass/fail and an estimated age range) and the timestamp.
- Activity data: the swipes you make, the matches you form, and the messages you send.
- Location: if you grant permission, your device's approximate coordinates, used to show you people nearby and sort matches by distance. Your exact coordinates are never shared with other users or stored anywhere they could read it — only a fuzzy range like "3-5 km away" is ever computed for another person to see. You can deny this permission and still use NearMatch; matching falls back to showing newer profiles first.
- Safety reports: any blocks or reports you submit against other users, including the reason given.
- Legal attestation: a timestamped record that you confirmed you are 18 or older at signup.
- Subscription status: if you purchase Premium, the plan, dates, and payment reference (not your card/UPI details — see Razorpay below). Other users only ever see a "Premium" badge, never your payment history.
- Referral and wallet data: your unique referral code, who signed up using it, and your wallet credit balance and history.
Website waitlist
Separately from the app, you can join our launch waitlist on nearmatch.in without creating an account. This section covers that, and only that.
- What we collect: the email address you type into the waitlist form. Nothing else — no name, no phone number, no location, no tracking of who you are beyond what you enter.
- Why: to email you once when NearMatch launches. We do not use waitlist details for advertising, we do not add you to a marketing list, and we do not sell or share them with anyone outside the providers named below.
- Where it goes: waitlist entries are stored in Supabase, the same database infrastructure that runs the app.
- Your consent: submitting the waitlist form is your consent to the above. You are not creating an account and our Terms of Service do not apply to you until you sign up in the app.
- How long we keep it: until six months after launch, or until you ask us to remove you — whichever comes first. After that the entry is deleted.
- Removing yourself: email getsupport@nearmatch.in from the address you signed up with and we will delete your entry. You do not need an account, and you do not need to give a reason.
How we use this information
- To operate core features: matching, chat, and profile display to other users.
- To verify age eligibility and maintain a safe user base.
- To enforce blocking and review reports of misconduct.
- To prevent spam and abuse through automated rate limiting.
- To show you nearby profiles first and display an approximate distance between you and other users.
Who we share data with
We use the following service providers to operate NearMatch. They process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:
- Supabase — our database, authentication, file storage, and real-time messaging infrastructure. Also stores website waitlist entries (email address only).
- Face++ (Megvii) — processes the selfie image solely to estimate age during the optional verification step. The image is sent for this one check and is not stored by NearMatch.
- Razorpay — processes your name, email, and phone number when you purchase a Premium subscription, and handles the payment itself. NearMatch never receives or stores your card, UPI, or bank details — Razorpay is a PCI DSS-compliant payment gateway that handles this directly.
Some of these providers process data outside India. Where that happens, it is only for the purposes described above and only with providers bound to process the data on our instructions.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Other users can see
Your name, age, photo or avatar, bio, interests, verification badge, and a fuzzy distance range (e.g. "3-5 km away") are visible to other users as part of normal app functionality. Your email address, password, exact coordinates, and exact match/report history are never shown to other users — the app itself never computes or transmits your precise location to anyone but you.
Data security
Access to your data is restricted using row-level database security, meaning the backend enforces — not just the app's interface — who can read or write which records. Blocked users are prevented from matching or messaging at the database level.
Your choices
- You can edit your profile information at any time within the app.
- You can block or report any user.
- You can permanently delete your account and all associated data yourself at any time from within the app (Discover → Delete Account) — no need to contact us. This removes your profile, matches, and messages immediately.
Your rights under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023
As a Data Principal under the DPDP Act, 2023, you have the right to:
- Access — request a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it is processed.
- Correction and updating — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data. You can also edit most profile information directly in the app.
- Erasure — request deletion of your personal data. If you have an app account, you can delete it and all associated data yourself at any time (Discover → Delete Account). If you only joined the website waitlist, email getsupport@nearmatch.in and we will remove your entry.
- Withdraw consent — withdraw consent for any processing you previously consented to, at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
- Grievance redressal — raise a grievance with our Grievance Officer (below) if you're unsatisfied with how your data is handled. If unresolved, you may escalate to the Data Protection Board of India.
- Nominate — nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity.
By creating an account and accepting our Terms of Service, you consent to our processing of the personal data described in this Policy for the purposes described above. If you have only joined the website waitlist and have no account, your consent covers only the waitlist processing described in the "Website waitlist" section, and the rights above apply to that entry. Where the law requires a distinct, specific consent — for example, the optional age-verification selfie check — we ask for it separately in the app before that feature runs. To exercise any of the rights above, email getsupport@nearmatch.in; we will respond within the timelines required by law.
Grievance Officer
In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the following person is designated as the Grievance Officer for NearMatch:
- Name: Avnish Yadav
- Email: getsupport@nearmatch.in
- Address: House No. 1468, Street No. 41, Sant Nagar, New Delhi – 110084, India
If you have a complaint or grievance about your personal data, content on the platform, or how a report was handled, write to the Grievance Officer at the email above. We will acknowledge your complaint within 24 hours and aim to resolve it within 15 days, as required under applicable law.
Children's privacy
NearMatch is not intended for anyone under 18. We require an affirmative age attestation at signup and offer optional AI-based age verification. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and we will delete any account found to violate this policy.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a material way, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
