Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 27, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information NearMatch ("we", "us") collects when you use the NearMatch app, how we use it, and who we share it with. NearMatch is intended for users aged 18 and over.
Information we collect
- Account information: the email address and password you sign up with.
- Profile information: your name, age, gender, bio, interests, and avatar or profile photo.
- Verification data: if you choose to verify your age, a selfie you take is sent to our age-estimation provider for a single one-time check. We do not store this selfie. We store only the result of the check (pass/fail and an estimated age range) and the timestamp.
- Activity data: the swipes you make, the matches you form, and the messages you send.
- Safety reports: any blocks or reports you submit against other users, including the reason given.
- Legal attestation: a timestamped record that you confirmed you are 18 or older at signup.
How we use this information
- To operate core features: matching, chat, and profile display to other users.
- To verify age eligibility and maintain a safe user base.
- To enforce blocking and review reports of misconduct.
- To prevent spam and abuse through automated rate limiting.
Who we share data with
We use the following service providers to operate NearMatch. They process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:
- Supabase — our database, authentication, file storage, and real-time messaging infrastructure.
- Face++ (Megvii) — processes the selfie image solely to estimate age during the optional verification step. The image is sent for this one check and is not stored by NearMatch.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Other users can see
Your name, age, photo or avatar, bio, interests, and verification badge are visible to other users as part of normal app functionality. Your email address, password, and exact match/report history are never shown to other users.
Data security
Access to your data is restricted using row-level database security, meaning the backend enforces — not just the app's interface — who can read or write which records. Blocked users are prevented from matching or messaging at the database level.
Your choices
- You can edit your profile information at any time within the app.
- You can block or report any user.
- You can permanently delete your account and all associated data yourself at any time from within the app (Discover → Delete Account) — no need to contact us. This removes your profile, matches, and messages immediately.
Children's privacy
NearMatch is not intended for anyone under 18. We require an affirmative age attestation at signup and offer optional AI-based age verification. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and we will delete any account found to violate this policy.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a material way, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
